Matching pearl earrings with your pearl necklace is very important – no conflict in style, otherwise the beauty of the two will be less than the sum of the parts. Here are some simple rules to follow

1) Pearl earrings with strand pearl necklace: This is relatively easy, provided that the strand pearl necklace is of classic design and does not come with additional ornaments or pendants. Simply follow the colour tone, and use short pearl earrings or pearl ear studs. Dont’t wear long dangling pearl earrings on top of a necklace!

2) Pearl earrings with pearl pendant necklace: Pendants are much less dominering than strand pearl necklaces, therefore you can afford to have a bit more creativity with your pearl earrings. For descrete/classy designs, having the pearl pendant and pearl earrings with matching fitting base could work very well, however if the fitting base design is extravagant (and sometimes retailers do sell matching extravagant pearl sets!), then it is better to tune down the earrings a bit, swtiching to plain pearl ear studs without extra decoration might be good strategy.

3) Dangling pearl earrings: long dangling pearl earrings are just too beautiful! But don’t overdo it. Remember, it’s not because two peices of jewellery both look good that they are going to look good matched up. Wear dangling pearl earrings with your hair pulled back or lazily cover half of your ears, a classy outfit (no jeans and stuff) and NO NECKLACES. Yes you read right! In fact whenever you go for long dangling earrings, no matter what the material, it is always a better choice not to wear necklaces at all. Perhaps a bracelet in the same style, but necklaces would always conflict too much with long earrings and it’s not worth ruining it. Less is more!

4) Get inspiration: Have a look at how film stars wear their pearls – not just the contemporary ones – in fact old film stars from earlier years had fantastic taste in pearls. Google Nida Naldi, Katherine Hepburn, Marion Davis, Yvonne de Carlo, etc. You will get plenty of great ideas.
